Mikaila Barber | Student Diary App
We've posed a few questions to our contestants to give you a better idea about who they are and what their idea is about.
We'll interview a new contestant each week and this week, we're talking to Mikaila Barber about her Diary App.
What's your idea all about?
My idea is all about helping students learn to manage their time better so they can achieve to the best of their potential. It's about making time management fun, easy and accessible.
Why did you enter and do you think you have what it takes to win it all?
I entered this competition because I think I have an idea that has the potential to not only be financially successful but also help our future generations achieve the skills they need to succeed (Okay, the prizes also had something to do with it!). I have a brilliant idea and the skills to make it happen.
How did the practice pitch evening help you with the real pitch you gave to our judges?
The practice pitch was so important to me getting as far as I have. At the practice pitch my ideas were all over the place and I was having trouble concisely saying what I wanted to say. With the fantastic advice from the judges at the practice pitch I was able to clarify my ideas so that when I came to present to the judges I ... had a Top 10 pitch.
What have you learned so far through the Market Validation process?
I am learning so much through the Market Validation I could probably write you an essay about it. If I had to boil it down to one thing it would be the importance of learning in business and, from this, the ability to react and develop.
What have you done with your $1k prize?
I haven't done anything yet with my prize money. If you have any ideas let me know.
And finally, can you tell us why it's important for others like you to enter Innovate next year?
Innovate Manawatu is a great opportunity. I have done so many things in this competition so far that I never would have thought I'd be able to do. It is this personal growth that makes all the stress and hard work worth it. I would encourage everyone to enter next year, you might think that you can't do it but you might surprise even yourself.
