PRODUCT RESOURCES

We prefer to think of products as things that "reduce costs or create value for customers" at The BCC, so a lot of the product development information you're looking for could well be in customer resources. This section will focus more on feasibility and freedom to operate.

Feasibility is really a question of whether the numbers work, and whether you can practically do what you need to do. This covers freedom-to-operate (your ability to launch your business without getting sued) and awareness of patents around what you are looking at doing. Also having a grasp of what is possible for your team to do. We admire ambition but four marketing students proposing a teleportation company with collectively no knowledge of physics, is probably not a good bet.   It's also worthwhile thinking about the various capabilities of your team members and what gaps you need to fill. If you contact us on startup@thebccblablabla.co.nz we may be able to put you in touch with someone who can fill the gap.

Finally, it's a question of math. Is the price, that your customer is willing to pay, enough for you to make enough money to cover all your costs? Keep in mind these costs include customer acquisition costs (marketing, etc.), paying salaries, and having enough money left over to grow and take over the world.

Below are some IP databases you can search for relevant patents. We also suggest you check out our team resources to see what gaps your team may have.
